‘Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation’

Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation is a method of pain relief that involves the use of a mild electrical current. The machine that is used during this process is a small, battery-operated device that has leads connected to pads called electrodes.

The TENS units deliver small electrical impulses through electrodes that have adhesive pads to attach them to the area that needs attention. These electrical pulses stimulate the body to produce natural pain relievers called endorphins.

TENS are able to assist in the process of reducing pain as well as muscle spasms caused by a wide range of conditions such as:

  • Sports injuries
  • Knee pain
  • Neck pain
  • Back pain
  • Arthritis

The Benefits

Endorphin Producer

Endorphins are our bodies’ natural painkillers and are essential hormones that exist in the brain. These are released anytime the body experiences any sort of stress.

The TENS Procedure release these endorphins who act as transmitters creating a feeling of ecstasy and well being which results in a reduction of pain signal to the brain.

Retrains Your Nerves

As well as reducing the amount of pain signal to the brain, the TENS treatment over time has the ability to retrain the nerves, even those suffering from nerve damage.

Treatment Control

A TENS machine provides you with complete control over the treatment, unlike other pain medications, where it isn’t always possible or feasible to increase or reduce the dosage if the method isn’t working.

Similar to a Massage

While the TENS process provides effective pain relief, there are TENS machines that allow you to enjoy the effects of a relaxing massage as well as targeting your pain at the same time.
